Frequently Asked Questions

How Can I Help?

There are many ways in which anyone can help!

1.  Spread awareness:  Many people are ignorant to the epidemic of suffering animals.
2.  Be a responsible pet owner.  Make sure you adopt ONLY if you can commit.  Spay and Neuter your pets.
3.  Donate.  Money, blankets, litter, food, toys, cages and other supplies are always appreciated.
4.  If you cannot donate to AWAsome, drop your old blankets off at your nearest shelter.
5.  Sponsor.  You can sponsor the costs of keeping one cat on a monthly basis.

How Can I Adopt?

To adopt, please contact us.
The steps include a short interview, a contract of commitment and a small donation fee.

What is the Difference Between Donate and Sponsor?

When you donate, it can be any items necessary to maintain a cat.
Sponsor is when you assume full financial responsibility for an animal for a certain amount of time

Why Only Cats?

There are plenty of dog shelters in Saigon.
Our team does not have the resources to care for dogs.
Cats breed at a much faster speed and are less valuable to breeders, so the chances of abandonment are much higher.

What Makes Animal Rescue So Expensive?

To be a responsible pet owner, cats need to be vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and often have other diseases that need to be treated.  Cats get cheaper with age, as more young kittens suffer from disease.

In addition to quality food, and most medical expenses, every cat costs around US $80/month (1,800,000 VND) to maintain.  This includes all medical expenses for the first year, if the cat is healthy.  This is just a ballpark figure, and can definitely go up.

Why Use Specialist Vets?

Vietnam is a third world country, where people and animals all suffer.
Specialist veterinarians often come here and start international clinics.
Visiting them is extremely expensive.
We use them in special cases due to advanced technology and to eliminate the
possibilities of a language barrier and differences of opinion, based on different cultural backgrounds. For regular vet services (deworming, vaccines, etc) we use our wonderful general practitioner, but for internal infections, viruses, and special needs, we prefer to visit a specialist to ensure survival for each kitten.

What is the Procedure for Surrender (Leaving a Kitten in Our Care)?

Many people find abandoned kittens and are unable to care for them.
We will happily take on cases like these.
We do however expect something in return.
If you bring a kitten to us, and expect us to care for this kitten, without any further involvement,
we now have the policy of a "Surrender Fee".
This is a donation from you, to us, to ensure we care for this kitten to the best of our abilities.
The Surrender Fee starts from US $22, or 500,000VND.
